A reference may identify a source URL, but the provider decides how its reporting counts appearances. Check whether a report counts citation appearances, distinct cited pages or another unit. (Bing AI Performance public preview announcement ↗)

Reading a citation report carefully
In Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report, a page can be reported as cited during a selected date window. Record the product and window, then check visits and subscriptions separately; Bing’s report does not define how other answer products count citations.
Citation counts are not audience counts
Follow the same starting set of pages when comparing periods. If an originally cited page disappears from the later report, preserve it as missing or unknown rather than dropping it from the comparison. Newly cited pages can increase the total while the original group declines.
Count the reference and the visit separately
A source may appear in an answer without anyone opening it. If you track visits as well, record where that measure comes from. Compare the same pages across dates so new pages do not make an existing group look more visible.
