Compare the specific tasks included in the service with the work your team would otherwise perform. Hosting, updates, backups and customer support can have different owners. (Ghost public company metrics ↗ · Ghost official hosting comparison · Ghost(Pro) plans and pricing)

Listing who owns each operating task
Illustrative task checklist: the publisher lists hosting, updates, backups, security monitoring and support, then marks what its specific provider agreement includes and what remains with staff. This does not claim that Ghost(Pro) includes every task in every plan.
“Managed” does not mean every task transfers
Include staff time in the cost comparison. In a hypothetical month, $30 of infrastructure plus two hours at $75 per hour costs $180. A $120 managed service is cheaper only if it covers the comparable work and its remaining staff costs do not erase the difference.
List the work that still belongs to you
Compare the duties in the agreement with the work your team actually performs. Include backups, deployment, restoration and incident response. Put retained work beside transferred work so a lower hosting bill does not obscure the hours you still need to budget.
