# What is Mail Privacy Protection? Apple Mail privacy for senders

Mail Privacy Protection is Apple Mail’s feature that limits what senders can infer from remote email-content activity.

Apple Mail can load remote content in the background. A tracking image may therefore be requested without the recipient opening and reading the message at that time.

## Interpreting an image load

A newsletter dashboard records a tracking-image request shortly after delivery. Apple Mail Privacy Protection can load remote content in the background, so that timestamp cannot establish when or whether the person read the message. A link click records a different action, not proof of attention.

## An open event is not attention

Do not delete a subscriber or stop an acquisition campaign solely because an open-rate report looks weak. Check other available signals such as authenticated site visits, purchases or replies, while recognizing that each measures a different action. A click is useful evidence of a link action, not a complete measure of attention.

## Choose a different outcome for a sending test

If you are deciding whether to send more often, compare actions tied to that decision, such as visits or completed signups. Keep the same eligible reader group. This reduces the risk of reacting to a change in the open metric alone.
